The proposed method for distantly measuring concentration of multicomponent gaseous impurity in the atmosphere by acoustic sounding implies using three-frequency pulse sonar and a two-channel phase shift meter. The method consists in transmitting a sounding acoustic signal in a specified direction, receiving the acoustic signals with multiple frequencies that are scattered in a result of the temperature inhomogeneity of the atmosphere, amplifying and filtering the received signals, determining the differences of the phases of the acoustic signals with different multiple frequencies in each channel of the phase shift meter, and determining thevariations of the phase differences for the signals that corerspond to adjoining layers of the atmosphere. The data so obtained are used to determine the concentration of the gaseous impurity. The present invention provides a possibility to monitor the pollution of the boundary layer of the atmosphere.
