A capsule of thermoplastic material has opposite parts of its wall brought together without being welded to each other, so as to divide it into two compartments separated by a weak seal which can be overcome without bursting the capsule, by manually squeezing one of the compartments. As shown, a tube 10 of thermoplastic material is heated and pressed at each end to form a strong seal 12. The capsule is divided into two compartments 20 and 22 by a transverse weak seal 14 formed by pinching opposite parts of the wall together with a membrane 16 e.g. of paper between them. When the capsule is squeezed the membrane 16 splits, the weak seal 14 is broken, and the contents of the compartments can be mixed before the capsule is opened. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), a similar capsule has a weak seal at one end in place of the strong seal previously shown. The capsule of Fig. 6 has two tubes 10 and 11, one within the other, joined at one end by a common strong seal, and provided at the other end with a weak seal 14. The three-compartment capsule of Fig. 7 has strong seals 12 at each end, and an intermediate transverse weak seal 14. Additionally a weak seal 14 extends from one of the strong seals 12 to the intermediate weak seal 14. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the seal separating the compartments 22 and 23 of Fig. 7 is a strong seal instead of a weak seal. In Fig. 9 (not shown), a capsule has a tube-like portion 24 formed with a neck 28 surrounded by a cup portion 30, and separate spherical portion 26 having a slit 32 as a weak seal rests in the said cup portion 30. The two compartment capsule may be provided with a withdrawable pin or rod extending from one end of the capsule into the intermediate seal which is formed around the said pin or rod. The capsules may be of gelatine, rubber or synthetic resin e.g. polyvinyl chloride. The membrane of the weak seal must be a non-absorbent for the contents of the capsule. Once the weak seal has been overcome the capsule contents may be mixed using a simple electric coil vibrator, mains driven, and provided with a vibrated arm formed with, or having attached thereto, a clip or other holder or receptacle for one or more capsules.
