PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power supply system which improves power supply efficiency and fuel consumption effect together with the protection of a series regulator, by controlling the potential difference between the input and output of the series regulator, in a power supply system which supplies electric load with power via a series regulator from a generator. SOLUTION: The system sets the potential difference between the input and output of a series regulator 4 by computing the maximum tolerable voltage of the series regulator 4 from the temperature of the series regulator 4, the output voltage, and the detection value of the quantity of the electric load 6, and controlling the output voltage of a generator 1 by means of a control means 7.
