PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide neutral paper for printing newspaper, having high whiteness, excellent in opacity, and having a high effect of preventing show-through in printing. SOLUTION: This neutral paper for printing the newspaper is produced by conducting papermaking of paper stock containing a precipitated calcium carbonate-silica composite material as a filler, wherein composite material has a weigh ratio of a solid content of the precipitated calcium carbonate to a solid content of the silica (precipitated calcium carbonate/silica) of 30/70 to 70/30 and is formed by coating surfaces of precipitated calcium carbonate particles with the silica. Thus, the produced neutral paper for printing the newspaper has the high whiteness, is excellent in the opacity, and has the high effect of preventing the show-through in printing.
