<p>The signaling device comprises a transmitter unit (20) comprising a light source (21) emitting visible light of different colors, or a flashing light pattern, when a dangerous situation is detected. Signal transmission is activated in response to driver input and also hazard information received from various existing sensors, e.g. a video camera, over the vehicle's CAN bus (40). A corresponding receiver (50) in another vehicle decodes the optical signal and presents information on a display (54).
