LIGHT WAVE CIRCUIT MODULE

There is provided a light wave circuit module capable of optically coupling an optical element and a waveguide array directly with low loss while having a function for converting the pitch P1 of the waveguide array so that it can be coupled with the pitch P2 of the active layer or the waveguide part of the optical element. The light wave circuit module comprises a waveguide array composed of m independent waveguides arranged at a constant pitch P1, and an optical element having m active layers or waveguide parts arranged at a pitch P2 narrower than the pitch P1. The pitch P1 is gradually reduced toward the active layer or the waveguide part of the optical element, the waveguide arrays are converged in one row at a pitch P3 identical to the pitch P2, thereby forming a converged part. The converged part is aligned to face the active layer or the waveguide part, thereby optically coupling each active layer or each waveguide of the optical element with each waveguide in the waveguide array.
