PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion / contraction type filter capable of suppressing filter sludge storage and its progress in a filter cloth attaching part and making the stable operation of a filtering device on which the filter is mounted be performed. SOLUTION: The expansion / contraction type filter comprises an expandable and contractible bag-like filter cloth, a flow path material arranged inside the filter cloth and a holding member holding one end side of the filter cloth and provided with an outflow path of filtrate from the inside of the bag-like filter cloth serving also as an inflow path of fluid for filter sludge removal into the bag-like filter cloth, and a fluid accumulation part of a cross sectional area larger than the flow path cross sectional area of the outflow path serving also as the inflow path is provided on the side of the filter cloth holding part of the holding member.
