<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the probability of ink leakage at the time of refilling ink into an ink tank. <P>SOLUTION: In step S1001, data related to an ink consumption amount of the ink consumed for the purpose of image formation and an ink consumption amount of the ink consumed for the other purposes than image formation is read out from a storage medium (for example, EEPROM) carried by the ink tank which holds the ink to be used for image formation. In step S1002, a refilling amount is determined in accordance with the read data related to the ink consumption amount.
