<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent improper operation of a water level sensor due to adhesion of recrystallized salt to it. <P>SOLUTION: A water softener comprises a resin accommodation part 2 that accommodates ion-exchange resin, and a salt water tank 3 that stores salt water for regenerating the ion-exchange resin. The resin accommodation part 2 and the salt water tank 3 are connected through a salt water feed line 15, and a water level detection means 4 for detecting the water level in the salt water tank 3 is installed in the salt water feed line 15.
