PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique that reduces a user's burden in selecting a background image. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus for processing images comprises an image display part for displaying images, a composition base image acquisition part for acquiring an image displayed on the image display part as a composition base image, a program data storage part for storing program data indicating externally transmitted television program information, a background image data storage part for storing a plurality of background image data classified into a plurality of categories corresponding to the television program information, and a background image search part for identifying the television program information that corresponds to the composition base image according to the stored program data and searching for the background image data classified into the category that corresponds to the identified television program information. The image display part displays at least one of the background image data found by the background image search part as a composition candidate image to the composition base image.
