PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for nondestructively and objectively diagnosing the deterioration state by insect damage or decay of a woody building material by use of a magnetic wood. SOLUTION: When a magnetic wood that is a wood having magnetic characteristic is used as a building material, a woody part shows a strength deterioration by insect damage by termite or the like or decay similarly to a general woody building material. In this method, the magnetic permeability of the woody building material using the magnetic wood is measured in a frequency range of 10-100 MHz by a magnetic sensor, an impedance analyzer, or a network analyzer, whereby the deterioration by insect damage or decay can be nondestructively inspected. The magnetic wood is a composite material obtained by combining wood with a magnetic body. The composite material is of any one of an impregnation type obtained by injecting a magnetic fluid to the wood with decompression or pressurization, a powder type obtained by mixing the wood powder and the magnetic powder with an adhesive followed by compression, and an application type obtained by applying a magnetic coating material obtained by mixing the magnetic powder to a lacquer to the surface of the wood.
