The present invention provides compositions comprising: (a) a thiol-specific reagent and a cationic polypeptide; (b) a thiol-specific reagent and an iron-sequestering glycoprotein; or (c) a thiol-specific reagent and a quaternary ammonium compound; and uses thereof for the preparation of devices, and in particular medical devices, susceptible to colonization by biofilm forming bacteria. Compositions comprising a thiol-specific reagent and a cationic polypeptide, iron-sequestering glycoprotein, or quaternary ammonium compound have significant synergistic antibiofilm activity.
