PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of air bubbles caused by difference in penetrating speed of adhesive in an optical fiber array which is assembled by using the adhesive. SOLUTION: The optical fiber array has a structure in which optical fibers 100 are sandwiched and held between substrates 101 and 102 and adhesive is penetrated into the gap between the substrates. A gap 111 between the substrates in a region 107 where no optical fiber 100 is arranged is intentionally made larger. By performing the above, difference in the penetrating speed of the adhesive which penetrates into gaps 112 and 113 and the penetrating speed of the adhesive which penetrates into the gap 111 is reduced, the adhesive goes into the gap 111 from the penetration tip of the adhesive and formation of air bubbles in a part of the optical fiber located at the outermost side is prevented.
