MATRIX CONVERTER APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an overvoltage from occurring in semiconductor bidirectional switches even if an instantaneous power interruption occurs during an operation of a matrix converter.

SOLUTION: A controller 14 control and switches connection states of nine semiconductor bidirectional switches 4-12 for a fixed period and prevents voltages of capacitors 19-21 in an input filter 3 from continuously increasing if an interruption of a three-phase AC power supply 1 is determined by a voltage value from an input voltage detecting circuit 13. The overvoltage is prevented from occurring when the instantaneous power interruption of the three-phase AC power supply 1 occurs even if the capacitors 19-21 in the input filter 3 have small capacities. A necessity of an electrolytic capacitor with a large capacity is eliminated.
