PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light wavelength converting element which has superior light saturation absorptivity and can efficiently convert the wavelength of light by making uniform the absorption carrier density in a light saturation area. SOLUTION: This light wavelength converting element is provided with a 1st optical waveguide R1 which guides intensity-modulated light L1 having a 1st wavelength (λ1) on a substrate 1 and also provided with a 2nd optical waveguide R2 for guiding light L2 having a 2nd wavelength (λ2) so that branch sections R2a and R2b are included, and further provided with a beltlike 3rd optical waveguide R3 extending in the extending direction of the optical waveguide R1 by joining the branch section R2a to the optical waveguide R1 in order to multiplex the intensity-modulated light L1 having the wavelength (λ1) and part of the light L2 having the wavelength (λ2). A light saturation region part E is provided on the optical waveguide R3 and the branch section R2b is united with a halfway part of the light saturation region part E to multiplex the rest of the light L2 having the wavelength (λ2).
