The system has a sensor (1) with two control surfaces (2,3), where the surface (3) is accessible by environmental influences. The sensor initiates locking/unlocking function through a locking device (9). A control unit (5) distinguishes the impact of environmental influences on the sensor from activation of the sensor through the control surface through detection of control surface selective signal changes at the sensor. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a locking system for a vehicle.
