Cheese grater with retractable crank

A hand operated cheese grater has a crank handle (5) operating a grating drum (21) and with a hinged pressure arm to press the cheese onto the drum. The crank handle has a telescopic construction with a shallow T-profiled slot and with inner and outer stops. The user grips the grater with one hand while pressing the arm with the thumb and operating the crank handle with the other hand. A thumb grip lip (43) on the top of the handle enhances the thumb pressure.
