PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultra-high pressure mercury lamp in which reduction of illuminance is not invited by preventing blackening which occurs at a light emitting part of a discharge container constituted of fused quartz glass. SOLUTION: A pair of electrodes are opposingly arranged in the interior of the discharge container having the light emitting part and a sealing part constituted of fused quartz glass while mercury is enclosed, and an aluminum concentration of a region with a depth of 5μm from the inner surface of the light emitting part is 1 to 25 wt.ppm.
