PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overload detecting device that has a simple mechanism, requires small space, and hence can be lightened and compacted. SOLUTION: The overload detecting device 10 is mounted in series with a coupling member 29 formed of one of a wire, a chain, and a link, and detects the excessive loading transmitted via the coupling part 29. The overload detecting device 10 comprises a fixed-side member 60 and a movement-side member 61 having first and second terminal sections 58 and 59 to which the coupling member 29 can be mounted, respectively, an elastic member 62 which is interposed between the fixed-side member 60 and the movement-side member 61 and on which a preload below the load of the excessive loading is charged, and a sensor 63 for detecting the excessive loading with the displacement of the elastic member 62.
