Security card, e.g. a bank or cash card has two external transparent protective layers, two inner design element containing layers and a middle security layer that has a machine-readable security element. At least one of the design layers is transparent to permit recognition of the security element. An independent claim is made for a method of manufacture of a security card in which a security layer is sandwiched between other layers.
