PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL element in which interference patterns that are generated by the gap between an electroluminescent (EL) element and a flat type display is prevented, and emission of light is not lost by prevention of the interference patterns, in the case it is used for a backlight of a flat display such as an image sheet, and to provide an efficient manufacturing method of the EL element. SOLUTION: In a separated electroluminescent element which has at least a luminous layer and a dielectric layer interposed between a pair of opposed electrodes, and which is sealed by a sealing film, an interference pattern prevention layer having a projection part is provided on the outer surface of the sealing film on the side where the light emitted from the luminous layer is extracted.
