<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which suppresses a decrease in contrast due to wavelength dependency of a refractive index and is capable of high-contrast display. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal cell 100 which has a couple of substrates 10 and 20 between which a liquid crystal layer 50 is held and a back light 40 capable of emitting lights such as an ultraviolet light and a blue light. A phosphor layer 36 which converts an incident light of the back light 40 into a light with a different wavelength and projects it is provided on the opposite side from the side where the back light 40 is arranged across the liquid crystal layer 50, an incidence-side polarizing layer 34 is arranged on the side where the back light 40 is arranged across the liquid crystal layer 50, and a projection-side polarizing layer 37 is provided between the liquid crystal layer 50 and phosphor layer 36. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
