PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a flat battery, which makes an electrolyte hard to leak by allowing the bottom wall of a positive electrode can to expand outward when caulking. SOLUTION: After an insulation packing 12 and a negative electrode can 2 are inserted into a positive electrode can 1, an opening top 5a of the electrode can 1 is caulked to a peripheral wall 7 of the negative electrode can 2 via the insulation packing 12, and the battery can is sealed. A mold for caulking comprises a sealing mold 15 to bend and mold the opening top 5a of the positive electrode can 1 toward the inside, a knock out pin 16, and a sealing upper punch 17 located toward the knock out pin 16. When caulking, a frame shape projection part 21 of the sealing upper punch 17 is attached to the periphery of a bottom wall 3 of the positive electrode can 1, and the sealing mold 15 bends and molds the opening top 5a with the battery can tucked between the sealing upper punch 17 and the knock out pin 16.
