PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording device realizing a high-definition double-sided image record at a high speed and an image recording method. SOLUTION: The image recorded on the surface of a recording medium 16 is formed on a transfer belt 17 by an ink discharged from a recording head group 11, while the image recorded on the rear surface is formed on a transfer melt 18 by an ink discharged from a recording head group 12. The images formed on the transfer belts 17, 18 are moved to a transfer area 26 and transferred to the recording medium 16 while being sandwiched by rollers 21A and 22A and conveyed. Therefore, the image printing is simultaneously executed on the surfaces of both sides by the recording medium 16 passing through the transfer area 26 by one time. Since the transfer pressure applied by the rollers 21A and 22A is changed according to the kinds of the recording medium 16, the image quality can be stabilized even if the irregularity of the thickness and surface of the recording medium gets different.
