PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain, in high purity, a silicone compound which is represented by general formulas (a) and/or (a') and is suitably usable as a monomer providing for a polymer suitable for an ocular lens such as contact lenses. SOLUTION: The silicone compound represented by general formula (a) and/or (a') is obtained by reacting an epoxysilane represented by general formula (a1) with a carboxylic acid represented by general formula (a2) in the presence of a metal salt of the above carboxylic acid. In this case, the reaction is performed by adding water in an amount of 0.05 wt% to the reaction system. In the above formulas, A is a siloxanyl group; R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-20C substituent having a polymerizable group; R<SP>2</SP>to R<SP>4</SP>are each independently H, a 1-20C substituent which may be substituted or -X-A; and X is a 1-20C divalent substituent which may be substituted.
