PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pitch control method with which in a process for producing pulp and paper, pitch damage s such as adhesion of pitch to a production apparatus, pulp stains, paper spots, breakage of paper, reduction in workability, etc., are effectively controlled and prevented. SOLUTION: The pitch control method comprises adding one or more of anionic water-soluble polymer compounds selected from an anionic water-soluble polymer compound A of a copolymer of a polymerizable unsaturated carboxylic acid and 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid, an anionic water-soluble polymer compound B of a copolymer of a polymerizable unsaturated carboxylic acid and 2-allyloxy-2-hydroxypropanesulfonic acid and an anionic water-soluble polymer compound C of a polystyrenesulfonic acid or their salts and/or a polyvinylpyrrolidone having 1,000-2,000,000 weight-average molecular weight to a papermaking process in which paper stock and/or white water containing a suspended fine particle exists.
