<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable liquid crystal composition which is photopolymerizable without nitrogen purge, and to provide a polymer of the polymerizable liquid crystal composition. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a polymerizable liquid crystal composition which comprises a bifunctional liquid crystalline acrylate compound represented by general formula (I) and a monofunctional liquid crystalline acrylate compound having a specific cyano group and exhibits a smectic A phase at room temperature, and there is also provided a polymer of the polymerizable liquid crystal composition. The polymerizable liquid crystal composition allows an optically anisotropic body having a smectic layer structure to be produced without nitrogen purge during photopolymerization.
