<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical SSB modulator properly adjusting phase differences of light beams in respective MZ waveguides to reduce light beams leaking out of the modulator. <P>SOLUTION: The optical SSB modulator is equipped with a 1st sub-Mach-Zehnder waveguide (MZ<SB>A</SB>) (2), a 2nd sub-Mach-Zehnder waveguide (MZ<SB>B</SB>) (3), a main Mach-Zehnder waveguide (MZ<SB>C</SB>) (4), a 1st bias adjusting electrode (DC<SB>A</SB>electrode) (5), a 2nd bias adjusting electrode (DC<SB>B</SB>electrode)(6), a 1st modulating electrode (RF<SB>A</SB>electrode) (7), a 2nd modulating electrode (RF<SB>B</SB>electrode) (8), and a 3rd bias adjusting electrode (DC<SB>C</SB>electrode) (9). The optical SSB modulator (1) is characterized in that output parts (10, 11) of either or both of the MZ<SB>A</SB>and MZ<SB>B</SB>are in an X-branch shape, and, in particular, the optical SSB modulator is characterized in that one optical path of the X branch is connected to a photo detector. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
