PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid phosphor material which exhibits fluorescence of a wide wavelength region ranging over the whole range of near infrared and blue-green visible regions. SOLUTION: The solid phosphor material contains tin (Sn) as an additive element and is composed of a crystalline solid which comprises calcium digalium tetrasulfide (CaGa<SB>2</SB>S<SB>4</SB>) or calcium sulfide (CaS) as the matrix.
