PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved differential device actively controllable in conjunction with the other control systems of an automobile. SOLUTION: This differential device comprises a case, a pair of pinion gears, a pair of lateral gears, and an electrically operable coupler having electromagnets. The coupler selectively connects one of the lateral gears to the case for driving.
