PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a setting method for a vending machine and the vending machine which eliminate botheration and error-prone characteristics of work for setting correspondence between columns and commodity selection buttons. SOLUTION: The setting method for the vending machine which sets correspondence between a plurality of columns for housing commodities and a plurality of commodity selection buttons for selecting commodities includes: a procedure for turning a column for which correspondence is to be set into a sold-out state; a procedure for cancelling the sold-out state of the column; a procedure of depressing at least one commodity selection button after the sold-out state is cancelled; and a procedure for setting correspondence between the column whose sold-out state has been cancelled and the commodity selection button which is depressed after the sold-out state has been cancelled.
