PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dope-type metal sulfide phosphor nanoparticle having highly sensitive and uniform light-emitting characteristics, safe, scarcely producing an effect on the environment, and capable of being easily functionalized, to prepare a dispersion of the same, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The dope-type metal sulfide phosphor nanoparticle has a surface modified with a surface modifier, wherein the surface modifier comprises a compound expressed by the formula [I]: HS-L-W [L is a divalent linkage; W is COOM (M is H, an alkali metal or NX<SB>4</SB>in which X is H or an alkyl) or NH<SB>2</SB>].
