PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a straight motion mobile body driving apparatus having a linear motor as a means to move a mobile body which is capable of preventing the mobile body from bumping into an end section in the scanning direction when the mobile body is in its home position without interfering with the initial movement of the linear motor and also capable of holding the mobile body when the movement direction of the mobile body from its stand by position contains a vertical upward direction component. SOLUTION: The straight motion mobile body driving apparatus comprises the straight linear motor 21, the mobile body having a slider 23 and a reading light source section 31 or the like fixed on the same, and elastic stoppers 40 arranged in the proximity of the both end sections of the linear motor 21 for regulating the movement of the mobile body in the directions of the end sections of the linear motor 21. In the stand by position of the mobile body, the mobile body abuts on the stopper 40, and at the same time, the mobile body can move against the opposing force of the stopper 40.
