Disclosed are compounds of formula I, wherein: A is -CH- or N, R2 is H, alkyl, alkylcycloalkyl, alkylaryl, alkylheteroaryl, cycloalkyl-alkyl, aryl-alkyl or heteroaryl-alkyl, W is O, S, NH, N(Rc) or NCN, Z is -C(O)ORd, -P(O)2ORd, -S(O)2ORd, -S(O)2N(Rd)(Rd), -(SO)2N(Re)C(O)Rd, -5-tetrazolyl, or -C(O)Rd, and the remaining substituents are defined herein. The compounds are used in the manufacture of medicaments for the treatment of pathological conditions mediated by antagonism of alpha 4 integrins, such as immune and inflammatory diseases.
