<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoder and an encoded data editor capable of enhancing encoding efficiency flexibly by discriminating the two-dimensional display area and the three-dimensional display area of three-dimensional solid image data so that an image processing method before encoding or encoding method can be altered, and an editing method and a processing method can be altered even for encoded data. <P>SOLUTION: The encoder is arranged to determine the two-dimensional display area and the three-dimensional display area of an inputted three-dimensional solid image and to perform encoding depending on the two-dimensional display area and the three-dimensional display area. More specifically, when the three-dimensional solid image is composed of image data for a right eye and a left eye, the encoding of image data is performed for the right eye and the left eye, respectively, depending on the two-dimensional display area and the three-dimensional display area.
