PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetoresistive effect type head, in which a magnetoresistive effect type element is not electrostatically broken. SOLUTION: The magnetoresistive effect type head H1, which includes a substrate 11, a protective substrate 12, an insulation layer 13, an MR element 14 disposed on the insulation layer 13, and shield layers 15 and 15 for shielding the MR element 14 from a magnetic field, and which is slidingly brought into contact with a traveling magnetic tape MT, comprises: a conductive layer 21 having conductivity on the side that is slidingly brought into contact with the magnetic tape MT and electrically connected with the substrate 11 and the protective substrate 12; and a protective layer 22 for protecting the conductive layer 21, wherein static electricity of the magnetic tape MT can be discharged to the substrate 11 and the protective substrate 12 via the conductive layer 21.
