A toner having excellent coloring properties, mold-releasing properties, electrostatic properties and surface properties is disclosed whose surface is covered with a coating layer by using at least one of a supercritical fluid or a subcritical fluid. Also disclosed is a method for efficiently producing such a toner with only a little burden on the environment. Specifically, the method for producing such a toner comprises a step for forming major toner particles wherein major toner particles respectively containing at least a resin particle are formed, and a step for forming a coating layer wherein a coating layer is formed on the surface of each major toner particle by having the surface adhered by or covered with a toner functional material using at least one of a supercritical fluid or a subcritical fluid.
