PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission member such as an image guide and its manufacturing method by which image quality is enhanced by preventing generation of air bubbles and arrangement disorder of pixel strands at the time of manufacture of the optical transmission member such as the image guide. SOLUTION: Many pixel strands 3 of an optical fiber consisting of a core part 4 and a clad layer 5 provided outside the core part 4 are bundled at mutually parallel state and inserted into an arrangement pipe, after filling the pixel strands 3 in the arrangement pipe, the pixel strands are transferred to a jacket pipe 2 whose diameter is larger than that of the arrangement pipe, a gap is filled with the pixel strands 3, then, the jacket pipe 2 in which the pixel strands 3 are filled is further inserted into a glass pipe 6 and the optical transmission member is molded by extending the pixel strands, the jacket pipe and the glass pipe after molding a preform by heating and integrating them.
