The wheel carrier unit includes a wheel carrier and an axle journal to take a wheel, fitted to the carrier. The wheel carrier unit (16) is in the form of composite casting. A wheel carrier (14) is cast from a first material, and the axle journal (10) is cast from another material, and is at least partly surrounded by the wheel carrier casting.
