<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus wherein either of a pair of cleaning brushes and a cleaning blade can be used to remove toner left on an image carrier after finishing a process of transferring a toner image. <P>SOLUTION: The cleaning apparatus 234 is provided with the pair of cleaning brushes 16 and 18, also, the cleaning blade 236 which is made movable between a cleaning position where the blade comes in press contact with an image carrying surface 14 and a standby position where the blade is separated from the image carrying surface 14, and a blade driving mechanism 238 for moving the cleaning blade 236 to either of the cleaning position or the standby position. Thus, when the cleaning blade is held at the standby position, the cleaning apparatus 234 functions as a brush cleaning apparatus, on the other hand, when the cleaning blade 236 is moved to the cleaning position, the cleaning apparatus 234 functions as a blade cleaning apparatus. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
