A beam scan is performed over a search range of a predetermined azimuth/direction and predetermined distance range and information on a plurality of objects obtained at each scan are compared, so that an object detected according to the same object is followed with a higher reliability and the following reliability is lowered when the detection is unsuccessful. That is, when the following reliability exceeds a first threshold value (S1), the object is detected as a target and when the reliability is below a second threshold value, the object is detected not as a target. This eliminates the problems that erroneous information indicating presence of a target actually not existing is outputted when a small threshold value is set or judgment of an object coming into the radar search range is delayed when a large threshold value is set.
