A film material with a full surface opaque coating or a partially opaque surface with relief where the opaque coating is obtained from an individual material component by a PVD or CVD process. Independent claims are included for: (a) a security element made from the film material; (b) a valuable document or packaging including the security element; and (c) preparation of the film material involving a carrier substrate.
