<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with a skew sensor and to realize both a skew adjustment and a running OPC in the process of recording operation. <P>SOLUTION: The running OPC is executed for variably controlling a power of laser beam, and the skew is also adjusted without stopping the running OPC. In the running OPC, the power of laser beam is variably controlled in accordance with a laser power evaluation signal which is produced from a return light of laser beam irradiated on a recording medium. In the skew adjustment, the adjustment is carried out in such a manner that skew evaluation signals changing with the light quantity of the return light of laser beam are successively detected while changing a tilt of an optical axis of the laser beam with respect to the recording medium. The skew sensor is eliminated by using the signal changing with the light quantity of the return light of laser beam as the skew evaluation signal. Since the light quantity of laser beam is changed with the skew status, the signal such as changing with the light quantity (light quantity signal PL, laser driving level Ssk, target value LT) can be considered as an index for the skew status. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
