PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data compression apparatus or the like for compressing data such as image data wherein the compression rate is enhanced. SOLUTION: The data compression apparatus obtains a difference between adjacent numerical values in consecutive numerical values configuring data to be compressed and codes only a particular numerical value "YY" among the numerical values appearing in the difference data.
