PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To scale down a circuit by using a resistor for monitoring a coil current which is also used as a sense resistor for protecting from overcurrent, resulting in less number of external components. SOLUTION: A switching regulator keeps a constant output voltage based on a current IL that flows a coil 21. A sense resistor Rs for monitoring the current IL that flows the coil 21 is added between a power supply VIN and a source of a transistor Q2 added, in parallel, to a switching transistor Q1. The sense resistor Rs protects from overcurrent and it is also used as a resistor for monitoring the current flowing the switching transistors Q1 and Q2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
