PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic tool changer, simplifying an enter/retreat path of a first unit on the robot side to a second unit 2 on the tool side, and decreasing the decelerating frequency. SOLUTION: In this automatic tool changer, the first unit 1 on the robot side is connected and disconnected to and from the second unit 2 on the tool side. The joint surfaces of the first and second units are both flat surfaces, the joint surface of the first unit 1 is formed of a non-magnetic substance 5, and the joint surface of the second unit 2 is formed of a magnetic substance 7. An electromagnet 42 energized by a spring in the direction of separating from the non-magnetic substance 5 is provided in the first unit 1, and when the electromagnet 42 is energized in the mutual joining state of the first and second units 1, 2, the electromagnet 42 is moved to the opposite side to the energizing direction by the spring to be attracted to the joint surface of the second unit 2 through the non-magnetic substance 5.
