<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a preform for use in precision press molding which method hot-molds a high-quality preform with a high productivity, and to provide a method for manufacturing a high-quality, glass-made optical element with a high productivity by using this preform. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a preform for use in precision press molding includes the process of forming a glass lump by separating a specified amount of glass from fused glass flowing out and of yielding a preform by forming this glass lump, wherein at least the outflow of fused glass and the separation of glass are carried out in an atmosphere containing a carbon-containing compound. The method for manufacturing an optical element includes a process of heating and precision press molding a glass-made preform; the preform made by the above method for manufacturing a preform for use in a precision press molding is precision press molded. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
