<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture quality predicting method and device which enable the excellent prediction and evaluation of the output picture quality by precisely calculating the reflectivity distribution of an image to be outputted from an image recording device in consideration of the characteristics of an image recording device depending on image data. <P>SOLUTION: The dot reflectivity distribution of each pixel is calculated based on the dot characteristics of an image recording device, and the dot reflectivity distribution of each pixel is successively arranged/synthesized at respective corresponding pixel positions based on image data. The reflectivity distribution of an image to be outputted from the image recording device is calculated (a step 102), and the dot characteristic parameter is optimized so that an evaluation value calculated (a step 105) from the spatial frequency components of the reflectivity distribution of an image to be predicted when the dot characteristic parameter is inputted to a plurality of different image data (a step 103) and the partial frequency components of the reflectivity distribution of an output image when the image data are inputted to the actual image recording device can be sufficiently reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
