PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic brake device capable of correctly detecting presence/absence of air in a brake circuit including a brake cylinder. SOLUTION: When detecting presence/absence of air based on the reference relationship between the operational stroke of a brake pedal and the hydraulic pressure of a brake cylinder, the actual operational stroke of the brake pedal and the actual hydraulic pressure of the brake cylinder, the reference relationship is determined based on the operational speed of the brake pedal.
