PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a button type alkaline battery preventing generation of hydrogen gas in the battery, having an excellent storage characteristic and excellent electrolyte leakage resistance. SOLUTION: This button type alkaline battery is composed by using mercury-free zinc or a zinc alloy as a negative electrode active material and by storing a power generation element containing a positive electrode mix and a negative electrode agent in a sealed space formed with a positive electrode can, a negative electrode terminal plate and an annular gasket. A zinc alloy coating film containing 0.1-30 mass% of indium and/or bismuth is formed on a surface in contact with the negative electrode agent of the negative electrode terminal plate. A coating film formed of an N-aminomethyl derivative of a benzotriazole-based compound represented by general formula (I) is formed on a surface which is obtained by removing, by chemical polishing, surface distortion of a surface for bringing at least the annular gasket on a copper or copper alloy surface of the negative electrode terminal plate into press contact therewith through a liquid packing material.
